Tabor Takes Control of BetVictor Online Gambling

Michael Barry Tabor is a bookmaker, businessman, gambler and owner of thoroughbred racehorses. Tabor regularly appears on the Sunday Times Rich List of the richest people in Britain. It was recently announced that Mr.Tabor has acquired Victor Chandler’s BetVictor the online casino and sports book enterprise.

Michael Tabor was brought up in Forest Gate in east London, the son of a glassmaker. Now seventy two years old the racehorse owner was also a major shareholder in Victor Chandler International, owning a 45 per cent stake in the Gibraltar-based online betting firm. Tabor, who previously operated bookmaker Arthur Prince before selling the 114 shop chain to Coral now has full control over the BetVictor chain, acquiring it for an undisclosed sum. Tabor is also one of the co-owners of the luxury Sandy Lane hotel in Barbados where he lives when not in Monte Carlo or Monaco. During the transition time Victor Chandler, who has led the group from the beginning  will step down as chairman but will continue to serve as a consultant. Chief executive Michael Carlton will also move aside but will also act as a consultant.

Tabor commented on the acquisition, "I believe the BetVictor brand has enormous potential and is well placed to continue its expansion with further investment and strategic development." The changes have received in-principle regulatory approval from the Gibraltar Gambling Licensing Authority.

Chandler also commented, "Having owned and led this business for more than 40 years, I looked towards the future and I decided that the company would be best served under new ownership and leadership. “adding, "I have known Mr Tabor for many years and I am confident that the company will continue to thrive under his ownership."

The changing of the guard at BetVictor will not affect the quality of the offering and will give BetVictor some new direction.
