Carrier Billing for Mobile Online Gambling

The coming era for the online gambling industry is mobile for that matter just about everything will migrate to mobile in the future. It is already visible in many jurisdictions with the addition of HTML5 games that offer real money betting while on the move.

One aspect of mobile online gambling is the idea of carrier billing. Instead of paying with cash, cheque, or credit cards, a consumer can use a mobile phone to pay for a wide range of services and digital or hard goods. Although the concept of using non-coin-based currency systems has a long history, it is only recently that the technology to support such systems has become widely available. Carrier billing technology has made some giant leaps and now offers a smooth, low-friction way for consumers to pay for digital content like apps and tokens within apps. That's why it has developers, app stores and mobile carriers so excited.  But that said, it faces some major hurdles, in particular the high prices currently charged by mobile operators for providing carrier billing services has kept many app developers away.

It was recently announced that  mobile game development and distribution platform TreSensa has joined forces with mobile payments company Fortumo to offer in-application purchasing using carrier billing to TreSensa‘s gaming network. HTML5 developers that publish apps through TreSensa now have the opportunity to generate additional revenue via mobile payments.

Co-founder and chief executive officer of Fortumo, Rain Rannu, commented,  “There are over four billion people in the world who do not have a credit card but who are able to make payments online using carrier billing.” Adding, “Because the payment flow of carrier billing is much more seamless, carrier billing outperforms credit cards in terms of conversion, especially on mobile devices.”

Chief executive officer of TreSensa, Robert Grossberg, said, “Mobile web games have tremendous growth opportunities ahead and developers can now easily take advantage of this.”
