Betfred Australian Sports Betting Powered by GTECH

In August of 2006, De Agostini Group acquired GTECH Corporation a U.S. gaming company. This transaction has created one of the world's leading gaming solutions providers, with significant global market share and the broadest portfolio of technology, services, and content solutions. GTECH now controls 63% of the worldwide online lottery business. The company has assets of €6.963 billion as of 2010 and profited €492,000 in that year.

The firm has expanded its services to include other online gambling platforms. GTECH’s MarginMaker platform has been chosen by Betfred to run the new sports betting offering in Australia. Betfred has been utilizing the GTECH services for a decade now.

Under a licence issued by the Northern Territory gaming Commission Betfred now has offices in Sydney and Darwin. Betfred’s Australia managing director Luke Brill commented on the international deal with GTECH, “We tasked GTECH and Betfred’s front-end development agency, Degree 53, in developing a new stand-alone system with a localised offering for the Australian market,” Brill continued, “They both rose to this challenge and delivered a sports mobile product on time and within budget, working seamlessly with the Betfred teams in both the U.K. and Australia to very strict deadlines, through every time zone and continually going that extra mile to ensure the product was ready. This is the first of a multi-phased approach to the Australian market. The mobile site will soon be followed by stand-alone apps and then our full website and with racing.”

GTECH’s senior vice-president and chief operating officer EMEA, Declan Harkin, also had this to say about the arrangement, “This is the first such foreign venture we have worked on together, and we hope it is the first of many.”

GTECH has operations in 52 countries worldwide on every continent and with this deal the Australian punter will have more choice.
