Zimbabwe Launches Online Gambling App.

The Republic of Zimbabwe, is a landlocked country located in southern Africa and its economy is changing with the times. The Information and communications technology (ICT) sector of Zimbabwe has been growing at a fast pace. A report by the mobile internet browser company, Opera, in June/July 2011 ranked Zimbabwe, Africa's fastest growing market. The term ICT is also used to refer to the convergence of audio-visual and telephone networks with computer networks through a single cabling or link system. There are large economic incentives (huge cost savings due to elimination of the telephone network) to merge the telephone network with the computer network system using a single unified system of cabling, signal distribution and management. This concept is being embraced by Hammer and Tongues Holdings, through its lottery gaming provider, Africalotto, has introduced mobile and online gambling to the market in Zimbabwe with an Android application named The Africalotto Mobile App.

Lucky Numbers, BONUS LOTTO and Fast Lotto will all be available online. The 10 tabs that run through the options is user friendly and quick. Registered users can place bets on the different lottery games through its retail network a first in Zimbabwe. The Africalotto agent said that the use of EcoCash, telecash and OneWallet for deposits and withdrawals was available. Upon registration age verification is required.

It has been suggested that this is just the beginning of online gambling action in Zimbabwe. Last May a 54 hour marathon of tech entrepreneurship and idea development the ’Startup Weekend Zimbabwe’ revealed the first runner up the MoneyGame team with an online sports betting platform that allows registered punters to place their bets.Users of the platform who win are given a reference number that can be used when redeeming their winnings at specific outlets and they can also enter their winnings to place more bets on the platform.
