Online Gambling Operators H5G and IGT Go to Court

High 5 Games is recognized and celebrated for being a pioneer in the gaming industry and as a developer of land-based, online, social and mobile games has made massive inroads in the online gambling industry worldwide.

It was recently announced that High 5 Games will enter into a law suit that claims that International Game Technology has allegedly violated a licensing agreement between the two firms. The lawsuit filed in US District Court in Chicago, reveals that H5G claims that IGT violated conditions of an arrangement and failed to pay royalties from gambling features used on 81 of H5G game titles.

Popular online slot games such as ‘Sex and the City’ and ‘Ghostbusters were mentioned in the suit with H5G maintaining  that IGT breached the 2012 licensing contract  and is owed royalties. H5G’s attorneys wrote in the legal argument that, “IGT has also failed to make certain payments owed under the now-terminated agreement, has failed to cease distribution of certain unauthorised, modified games, and has failed to abandon, cancel, or assign to (High 5 Games) certain trademark filings,”

The disagreement between IGT and H5G ha sbeen smoldering for some time with H5G requesting that IGT stop using the slot machines that use the features in dispute. Features used on H5G’s DoubleDown Casino social gaming web location are also being asked to be discontinued by IGT.

The two gambling operators have had a long term relationship that began in 2003 and was extended until 2008. There were other disagreements during the partnership regarding distribution rights of games. The partnership was supposed to be over in 2011 when discord became evident.

The law suit by H5G mentioned,  “Upon information and belief, to avoid the stringent penalties that IGT would have faced under the 2008 agreement for its material breach, after nearly a year of settlement discussions, IGT offered to enter into a new agreement, which came to fruition in 2012,”
