Daily Fantasy Sports Betting Launched in France

There is something about fantasy sports that attracts serious punters who firmly believe they can outsmart the operators and at times they do. Daily Fantasy sports betting has had a certain amount of controversy attached to it since it started to become popular in the USA much of which is still in play in many jurisdictions Stateside.

The interest in Daily Fantasy Sports has come to France and the government there sees the potential for revenue.  France has regulated fantasy sports and the first to launch a legal offering in the country is the French online poker operator Winamax. Just in time for the beginning of the French Ligue 1 football competition has launched a fantasy football competition called The Coach’s Game.

Winamax is the market leader for its poker offering in France and has been offering new exciting ways to play including a new format of satellite poker tournament known as Hit&Run.

Daily fantasy sports is a little complicated for some but Winamax has come up with a method. Players will be offered a choice of five on a side or full complement teams. Initially a play-money budget is used to build a team made up of the usual team members. Points are awarded according to the performance of the team in each place.  Game stakes of €2, €10 and €50 are available for now although higher stakes are expected to be made available soon.

DFS was approved by Autorite de Regulation de Jeux en Ligne( ARJEL) the regulatory body in France, by the board of directors late in 2015. The regulatory body set out exact conditions that must be met for an operator to function such as the display of clear rules and process for point calculation. The regulatory body has also said the rankings determined by the DFS site must be accurate. France has embraced this new form of sports entertainment as a skill based game.
