GAMBLING GUIDANCE FROM THE AGA
Responsible gaming TV ads scheduled
Readers in the United States may soon be seeing some hard-hitting advertisements on responsible gambling from the American Gaming Association.
The land casino Association will soon launch its first public service announcement on this important topic, which is to air during World Poker Tour tournaments as well as other gambling-related programming on the Travel Channel.
The AGA has just completed a Responsible Gaming Education Week to raise awareness in Nevada and in other states where its members do business, and the 30 second insert was introduced.
The advertisement carries a clear message: "Keep gambling what it should be ... entertainment." It features statements by gamblers against a casino backdrop and goes on to caution, "Without setting limits, it's easy to get carried away," and "You don't have to take big risks to have big fun."
The AGA is also carrying what the advert describes as a "free guide to responsible gaming" on its site. This reminds gamblers that "the odds of winning are with the house" and that responsible gamblers play "for limited amounts of time, both in frequency and in duration."
"Responsible gaming always has predetermined, acceptable limits for losses" and should be avoided when money for gambling is borrowed or to try and make up for prior losses, the AGA guide advises. People shouldn't gamble if they are "feeling lonely, angry and depressed or under stress; when coping with the death of a loved one; to solve personal or family problems or to impress others," it says.
