With 69 percent of all searches in the UK, and 58 percent in the States, this search engine dominates.

If your looking for information on the Internet, chances are your going to "google" for it - yes, the search giant's brand has even become an adverb!

Latest search engine survey out from Hitwise has a wealth of really useful stats for the SEOP guys including this core information, based on the numbers for the four weeks up to 21 May this year.

Google's nearest competitor in the States is Yahoo.com with 29 percent of the action, but in the UK the gap is even wider with Google's closest opposition being MSN.co.uk on only 7.07 percent.

In Britain, Google and MSN attract the more upmarket folks, and they spend an average of 13 minutes on the site when they are searching for stuff.

Hitwise has been around since 1997 and monitors the largest assembly of Internet users - 25 million users on 500 000 sites across 160 global industries.
