Online Gambling Firm Bet 365 Founder Denise Coates Named CBE

The online betting industry has many sides that garner interest from the world of venture capitalists and other industries. There are a few people that stand above the rest when it comes to entrepreneurial skill and business savvy. One such individual has been honoured in a royal fashion that person being Denise Coates. Coates who founded and owns more than half the shares in Bet365 the online gambling operation privately held company, has been named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s New Year Honors list for her services to the community and business.

The recipient of the honour said after the announcement, “It’s an incredible honor to receive this award. It would not have been possible without the fantastic support and commitment of everybody at Bet365.” The successful woman thanks her father who excelled in the gambling trade before her with a lucrative land based betting shop chain.
The Bet365 operation had humble beginnings in a parking lot trailer in Stoke back in the year 2000. Now the firm has grown to compete on a global level offering wagers in 17 different languages to a reported 6m customers and employs somewhere between 1,400-1,700 people.  Most of those employees are  Stoke residents, making it the region’s biggest private sector employer. The company also provides the financial backing for Stoke City Football Club, the oldest club in the Premier League.

Denise Coates' father Peter provided the capital for his daughter’s online venture was pleased to comment on behalf of the family, “we are all delighted and all proud of her. She has done an absolutely amazing job for Bet365, building it up from scratch. And obviously the money the football club gets comes through the success of Bet365, so she has played a key role in the success of the football club.”  The praise was heartfelt and repeated by many of her associates and friends in Stoke City.
