TELLING IT LIKE IT IS !!
Online gambling has a new US champion
Developments at the online betting group Bet US have led to industry support in the USA from a powerful new voice - ex-state governor Jesse Ventura.
The former governor will appear in radio and print ads debuting this week for the site Bet US.
In one, Ventura says: "As governor, Jesse Ventura told it like it is, and now I'm telling you that Bet Us is the only place to bet."
Federal authorities have declared that online gambling is illegal in the United States, and Congress has refused to let U.S. casinos offer gambling online and as a consequence Bet US is licensed in Canada and Costa Rica.
"I don't know why I'm being attracted to online gambling, considering I don't do it myself very often," Ventura told The Associated Press. He added with a chuckle: "Bob Dole had the pills, Viagra. I prefer to endorse online gaming. To each his own. ... It's entertainment."
Mike Foreman, BetUs.com's chief marketing officer, said the company chose the former professional wrestler turned politician partly because of his popularity among 25 to 54 year olds, the site's target demographic.
"It's a very powerful statement that a former governor is willing to endorse our company," Foreman said. "For us and an industry that has been often questioned in the press it gives us a certain level of credibility."
Neither Foreman nor Ventura would disclose the financial terms of the one-year deal.
