The brick and mortar casinos of the world have to regularly go through renovations to attract the high rollers in the competitive gambling market. A recent renovation and upgrade happened in London at the iconic Hippodrome. A three month revamp of the old lady of entertainment and a mere £40m will provide a 90,000 square foot “international style” casino in down town London. The new casino has three gaming floors, a two tier smoking terrace, a cabaret theater, a restaurant and five places to buy a drink and enjoy the atmosphere.

The Hippodrome has a great history dating back to the 1900s when it was built as a circus and variety venue for the vast sum of £250,000 which back in 1900 was a substantial amount of money. Now after a facelift the Hippodrome has become the largest casino in the United Kingdom. A recent deal with the world largest poker room PokerStars sees the casino going online in 2013. The recent announcement hailing the appointment of George Constantinou as Director of Online Operations confirms the Hippodrome will also have a cyber future. The deal where PokerStars has purchased a minor stake in the Leicester Square casino will make this casino a fantastic place to play cards.

Constantinou will be the head mover for the soon to be web presence. Refurbished and upgraded this will be the first PokerStars branded brick and mortar poker room in Europe. The good news continued with the announcement that the Hippodrome has also partnered with Microgaming to provide great and reliable online gaming software for games in the casino. The CEO, of Microgaming Roger Raatgever was pleased to say, “Microgaming is proud to have been selected as the exclusive provider of online gaming software to the iconic London brand The Hippodrome. The convergence of offline and online gaming is a trend that Microgaming has been at the forefront of for some time now and we are delighted to be able to provide a bespoke online casino to The Hippodrome, giving their players a first class cross-platform gaming experience.”
