TALK TO US SAYS NEW BRIT GAMING COMMISSION
Chairman Dean favours consultative process on new UK online gaming licencing
Peter Dean, chairman of the new Gambling Commission - the body that will control
internet gambling in the UK - has again called on online gaming interests to
contribute to the licencing regulations drafting process.
At the present time only sports betting firms may base their servers in the
UK, with firms forced to locate gaming servers offshore, but all that is about
to change with a more progressive approach to Internet gaming generally.
"The Commission is currently working on the licence conditions and codes
of practice which will be relevant to the remote gambling sector. We will be
consulting on drafts of these conditions and codes early next year, Dean
said.
"This is an exciting time for the industry, and I would encourage all those
who have its welfare at heart to share your views and get involved."
The Gambling Commission was established under the UK Gambling Act 2005. It will
be fully independent.
Richard Caborn, UK minister for culture, media and sport, which includes gambling
regulation, said he was confident the commission will be seen as "...a
model for gambling regulation around the world."
The Gambling Commission takes over the role of the Gaming Board of Great Britain,
and comes into power on October 1 2005.
