MORE SPORTSBOOK ACTION FROM CASSAVA?
CEO says more focus likely on sports betting in the near future
Major online casino and poker group Cassava Enterprises (888.com) will be far
more active in the sports betting sector in the near future as it seeks to broaden
its business base, marketing across a massive database of millions of casino and
poker room players.
In an interview with the British media the casino giant has revealed plans to
ramp up the marketing of its previously low key sports betting operations. 888.com
currently operates a white label of the Betdaq betting exchange under the Betmate
banner, which does not accept bets from the US.
However, the firm is keen to grow revenues from the previously underexploited
sportts betting section of its business.
We will be focusing much more on sports betting in the near future,
John Anderson, chief executive of 888, said. We wanted to get it bedded
down and everything working well before we started aggressively selling it.
He added that the firm would be focusing heavily on cross-marketing to its massive
database of casino and poker customers, although there are no plans to offer bets
to U.S. players.
The press reports that 888.com is not the only casino group to enter the sports
betting sector, with rival operator Carmen Media already running a European-focused
sportsbook. There were also rumours that PartyGaming was planning to enter the
sports betting sector through the acquisition of betting exchange Betfair.....this
was denied by a Betfair spokesman who dismissed the report, saying "That's
news to us!"
