Commonwealth of Kentucky USA Attacks Online Poker Again
The long and enduring saga of the online gambling domain names seized by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the law suits that have come about because of the action has taken yet another dramatic turn. As if the PartyGaming and PartyPoker brand haven't had their fair share of litigation in America the State of Kentucky USA has decided to add the PartyGaming subsidiary PartyPoker to it's list of companies to target in court along with Full Tilt Poker.
Even thought the Kentucky case does not seem to hold much water without specific numbers sighting the supposed losses to the online gambling firms sustained by residents in Kentucky between March 2005 and September 2009 the case continues.
Last March the state filed a lawsuit against Pocket Kings, the suggested operators of Full Tilt Poker, claiming restitution for losses that State residents had during that time.
Speculation is rife that the Kentucky government sees the recent merger of PartyGaming and Bwin as a windfall that could net the Commonwealth more cash in the event that the law suit goes ahead. PartyGaming has suggested on a few occasions that it has a desire to re-enter the online gambling market in the USA should the existing prohibition be lifted there.
Chairman of Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association, Joe Brennan, who has been fighting the legal battle with Kentucky in defence of the online gambling operators, commented on Kentucky's approach, "This is a last minute ploy by the Commonwealth to try to force a settlement. I think they named Party because the company is engaged in a merger and they’re trying to use that to get money out of them. They’re probably trying to get Party to pay out some cash settlement. Party has been around for a while and nothing has changed other than they’re trying to undergo a merger."
It is no wonder some people are cynical about the newest twist in the State of Kentucky's attack on poker since PartyPoker hasn’t accepted wagers from residents in the USA since 2006.
