Chinese authorities urged to pay "special attention" to Internet "vices"
Interfax reports that the Chinese General Administration of Press and Publications (GAPP) has called on its local branches to more closely monitor Chinese internet sites for "inappropriate content", paying special attention to gambling, electronic gaming and online literature websites.
Local branches of the GAPP, the government agency overseeing copyrights and publishing in China, will monitor the internet for inappropriate content such as pornographic, gambling and anti-government material, the statement said.
Any Chinese website found to have published inappropriate content, or provided links to such content, will receive an official warning from the GAPP. Websites will have twenty-four hours after receiving the notice to remove the content. Those that do not comply will be punished according to existing administrative regulations, the GAPP said.
In addition, websites that have been warned will be monitored more closely on a day-to-day basis.
