PLENTY OF STEAM LEFT IN ONLINE POKER
A positive view on online poker by someone who should know
Earlier this year, pessimistic views on the staying power of the online poker
phenomenon were soundly discounted by impressive trading numbers from leading
online poker sites.
Just before the holiday season, some business writers opined that sales of poker
accessories would decline in line with decreasing interest in the game - they
were proved wrong too as stocks flew off the shelves according to recent reports.
Adding to the positive vibe this week was Lenny Barshack, founder of
the very successful poker software provider Tribeca Tables.
Producing a convincing raft of statistics, Barshack told a conference that growth in the poker sector had not levelled off. Key to his argument was industry revenue numbers for 2005 which showed that the online poker industry surpassed the US $3 billion mark in the fourth quarter of 2005.
