UK GAMBLING REGULATION PROPOSALS NOW PUBLIC
Three month consultative phase begins
The UK government has begun a three-month consultation period for its Gambling
Act proposals, which were published this week.
The proposals for the new Act, which will come into effect from 1 September
2007, illustrate in more detail how the government intends to move from the
current legislatory system of licences, permits and registrations to the new
regulations and what the transitional arrangements are. The proposals include
arrangements regarding interactive gaming.
The proposals are also intended to make sure that operators have a clear understanding
of what they have to do and when, in order to convert their existing permits
and allow a sufficient lead time so that both the industry and regulators can
have enough time before September 2007 to prepare properly.
