The gaming battle for your hard earned money is constant and every once in a while the pot boils over and legal action is threatened. In the United Kingdom a new kid on the lottery block has run into some opposition from one of the old boys of the lottery industry the UK national lottery operator, Camelot.
With good intentions the new Health Lottery was launched recently by media baron, Richard Desmond who owns Channel 5 and the Daily Express. After gaining the approval from the UK Gambling Commission, it was launched with great fan fair and a TV advertising campaign.
It is being speculated that the national lottery operator Camelot, which has a license to operate until 2019, is looking at possible violations of the strictly controlled lottery regulations. As yet there have been no confirmed comments from the National Lottery operator as to whether or not there will be any legal action taken against the new Health Lottery.
The new enterprise has had a few problems getting the bugs out of its system with the tampering of its terminals that it uses to sell tickets. The Health Lottery also has issues with Google which reversed a decision to allow the Health Lottery to advertize on the Google Adwords service.
The Health lottery spokesperson said, “Camelot runs The National Lottery to the highest levels of propriety. We have not been informed of any allegation against any Camelot member of staff regarding the Health Lottery. If any allegation is brought to our attention, we would obviously investigate it thoroughly.”
The Health Lottery spokesperson continued, “The Health Lottery scheme works to represent its 51 society lotteries with the single aim of raising over 50 million pounds for charity, and offering great prizes to give players a great experience. We are already out there making a difference just 2 weeks after launch, having raised over £1m. Irrespective of any practices we might see by others we remain committed to the goal of fair share money raising for every corner of Great Britain in our first year of operation.”
