First quarter update from Party Gaming due next week
The first-quarter 2006 update from online poker and casino operator Party Gaming - operator of the world's biggest poker room 'Partypoker', is due next week and speculation is already heated on the likely positive effects of the addition of blackjack late last year. The extra game is expected to send revenue soaring.
Dresdner Kleinwort forecasts PartyGaming will reveal group revenue of $324.8 million, up 46 percent against the previous year and ahead 5.1 percent from the fourth quarter. For online poker alone, Dresdner estimates revenue of $250.2 million, up 19 percent from last year, while online casino gaming takings are seen at $74.6 million from a standing start.
Analysts included the likely effect of current US attempts to outlaw online gambling in their projections, remarking: "Uncertainty surrounding US regulation continues to hold the Party Gaming shares back. With Congress likely to run until October 2006, this uncertainty is likely to continue. However, we continue to believe that the likelihood of a prohibitive bill passing and the actual impact on the industry were a bill to be passed, are materially exaggerated."
