BIG WORLD POKER TOUR TEAM FROM ONLINE CARD ROOM 'POKER ROOM'
Over half a million dollars invested in 19 players for top online poker tourney
Poker Room has assembled, at a total cost of well over half a million
dollars, a top 19 player team to compete in the upcoming World Poker Tour
World Championships.
The championship starts today (April 18) at the Bellagio Hotel &
Casino in Las Vegas and runs through to April 24.
Poker Room's team spots are worth $27,900 each, a value that includes travel
and accommodation expenses and the $25,000 tournament buy-in. The team has been
selected from a group of more than 100 poker players who represent PokerRoom.com
in some of the most prestigious poker tournaments in the world. Members battle
for available spots at major land-based events through online qualifying tournaments.
Overall, Team PokerRoom.com members comprise a diverse group of players, ranging
from a sports apparel sales representative from Texas to California-based investment
banking analyst, Jim Davenport, who landed an exclusive PokerRoom.com endorsement
deal in early March, 2006.
Davenport received the $250,000 endorsement package, including travel expenses
and buy-ins for at least 12 major poker tournaments, by winning the inaugural
PokerRoom.com "Become a Poker Pro" event.
"Team PokerRoom is as much about the camaraderie among the players and
enthusiasm for the game as it is about the competition and earning a seat to
play in the biggest tournaments like the WPT World Championship," said
Glenn Cademartori, spokesperson for PokerRoom.com.
"It provides a forum for all types of players to learn from one another
as they develop their individual skills needed to enjoy, compete and succeed
in the game of poker."
