LADBROKES JOINS THE MOVE TOWARD ONLINE BACKGAMMON

High quality graphics, multicultural comms feature in new offering

Top British gambling group Ladbrokes this week launched its first online backgammon product with high quality graphics, sound effects and a phrase translation facility to make multicultural communication easier.

Tournament oganiser Lewis Deyong, who helped devise the new game, says that players can select stake levels from US$1 to US$1 000 and access a drop-down menu of 20 phrases which will be translated into their native tongue. It is hoped this will encourage a sociable element to the game.

Initially, the service will be offered in the Northern European leather-board style, but will also be available in a wooden format popular in the Mediterranean region.

David Briggs, managing director of Ladbrokes egaming division, said: "We will run cash games and regular tournaments that will guarantee players visit often for a game. Ladbrokes backgammon is the strongest offering on the web. It offers an authentic representation of the traditional offline game which will enthrall enthusiasts and capture the imagination of new players around the globe."
