UKASH GETS THE LADBROKES ACCOUNT
Safe European alternative to online payments
Around 30 percent of UK customers are reluctant to use credit cards online, 16
percent of UK adults cannot use plastic as they do not own a card of any description
and 2.8 million possible clients for online gambling companies do not have bank
accounts. Those numbers underline the reason why alternative payment system Ukash
is currently doing solid business in the online gambling sector.
Ukash works in a similar way to a mobile phone top-up card, whereby
through Payzone, ePay and PayPoint, consumers can buy cash vouchers to use online.
This week, the online cash payment provider announced a significant deal - an
international partnership with Ladbrokes to provide cash payments with Ukash vouchers.
The agreement means that UK-based, Irish- and Spanish-registered Ladbrokes.com
account holders can now immediately add pounds sterling or euros to their balance
through Ukash.
Both companies highlighted the benefits of flexible payment techniques, particularly
emphasising continued consumer nervousness surrounding online debit and credit
card payments.
Aitor Canada, territory manager at Ladbrokes, said: We are delighted to
accept Ukash as this will relieve any customer concerns about internet security
and credit card fees.
Michael Norton, chief executive of Ukash, said: Ukash will enable Ladbrokes.com
to target potential cash customers, and it offers the company freedom from repudiations
and charge-backs.
