INVESTOR COMMUNICATIONS KUDOS FOR SPORTINGBET

British gambling group recognised by Investor Relations Magazine UK awards

UK gambling group Sportingbet picked up 4 out of a possible 5 awards in the recent Investor Relations Magazine UK Awards, making a considerable impact on its first appearance in the nominations.

The awards, held in association with the Financial Times, celebrated the country's best-performing companies in the field of shareholder communications as voted for by over 750 portfolio managers, analysts and retail investors.

For the first time in the awards' 15-year history there a new category for leisure goods and gaming was introduced, recognising the exceptional growth of the gaming industry. Sportingbet did particularly well in the new category, and took the "Best Investor Relations By a CEO" award, which was presented to Chief Executive Nigel Payne. Respondents cited his proactive approach to IR as a major advantage to his company.

The investment community voted for the top companies in 29 separate categories including best investor relations officer, best investor relations by a CEO, best corporate governance and best operating and financial review earlier this year. The IR Magazine UK Awards is the largest event of its type in Europe, attended by around 800 professionals including investor relations officers, CFOs, CEOs and service providers.

Mary Maude was commissioned by Cross Border, event producer, publisher of IR magazine and host of the IR Magazine Awards worldwide, to conduct the Investor Perception Study for the awards. The study gathered votes for the evening's winners and canvassed opinion on current issues in the IR community.

Adrienne Baker, editor-in-chief of IR magazine, comments: "The UK capital market is undergoing a number of changes, as witnessed by the frenzy of deals and the unbundling of soft commissions on the buy side. This makes it an especially interesting time for companies to stand out for their excellence in keeping investors and analysts informed. The bar is always slightly higher in terms of the investment community's expectations from IR departments when a region's equity culture is in the midst of a subtle but powerful transition."

The awards are sponsored by Aspect, Business Wire, Cantos, Capital Precision, City Insights, CTN Communications, EBM, Execution, Financial Times, Georgeson, Greenaways, Hemscott IR, Hugin, Investec, the Investor Relations Society, MacKenzie Partners, PrecisionIR, PR Newswire, Radley Yeldar, Bank of New York, the Panoramic Group, Thomson, twentysix London and Verizon Business.
