ONLINE GAMBLING CONFERENCE CORNER
Striking while the iron is hot....a conference on the U.S. legal situations
Hard on the heels of legislative developments and the BetonSports debacle in America comes an Emergency Briefing from World Online Gambling Law Report.
The Report is organising the briefing to analyse the legal background and significance of the recent action taken by the US authorities, and will be held in London within the next two weeks.
Experts will help analyse the Department of Justice's 22-count indictment charging 11 individuals, including David Carruthers, CEO of BetonSports, and four corporations, including BetonSports, on various charges of racketeering, conspiracy and fraud.
The temporary restraining order on BetonSports obtained by the federal authorities in the USA will be studied in depth, together with the BetonSports response and any lessons learned.
The Emergency Briefing will also consider the issue of extradition in the light of the US action and recent extradition cases.
Finally, developments in Congress, such as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Prohibition and Enforcement Act of 2006 will be analysed and considered as this legislation heads to the Senate after its passage through the House of Representatives.
Venue: TBA, Central London
Time frame will be on or before 4 August
