POKERSTARS RELEASES WCOOP SCHEDULE

As one major championship peaks, dates for another are announced

With the World Series of Poker about to peak (the main event is centred on July 28) the next big poker championship, the 2006 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is shaping up, and this week Pokerstars announced the full schedule.

Pokerstars is underwriting three prize pools at a minimum of $1 million, and a grand finale with a guaranteed $3 million pool. Last year's main event winner pocketed a cheque for $577 342, together with the traditional WCOOP bracelet awarded to every event winner.

This year's championship will run from September 16 through October 1, beginning with a Razz tournament and ending with the $2,500 + $100 No-Limit Hold'em final. Participants in the 2006 WCOOP will also have the chance to compete in a new event using the increasingly popular H.O.R.S.E. format, the $5,000 + $200 H.O.R.S.E. tournament.

The complete schedule for the 2006 WCOOP is as follows:

Sept. 16 - Razz ($200+$15) $100,000 guaranteed
Sept. 17 - No-Limit Hold'em ($500+$30) $1.5 million guaranteed
Sept. 18 - Pot-Limit Omaha (w/ Re-buys) ($300+$20) $400,000 guaranteed
Sept. 19 - No-Limit Hold'em Match Play ($200+$15) $300,000 guaranteed
Sept. 20 - Limit Omaha High/Low ($500+$30) $300,000 guaranteed
Sept. 21 - No-Limit Hold'em (rebuys) ($200+$15) $1 million guaranteed
Sept. 22 - Limit Hold'em ($200+$15) $200,000 guaranteed
Sept. 23 - H.O.R.S.E. ($200+$15) $100,000 guaranteed
Sept. 23 - Pot-Limit Hold'em ($500+$30) $400,000 guaranteed
Sept. 24 - No-Limit Hold'em ($1,000+ $50) $1,000,000 guaranteed
Sept. 25 - Seven-Card Stud ($300+$20) $100,000 guaranteed
Sept. 26 - Pot-Limit Omaha ($300+$20) $200,000 guaranteed
