World Cup excitement seems to have the police in various parts of the orient very busy keeping a lid on the gambling going on. The latest news coming in from Malaysian where police have been busting illegal bookies.
In Kuala Lumpur, a family of four were raided and arrested for providing a gambling house in their restaurant for an online betting session on one of the World Cup Games. It may seem hard to believe that these poor people would get arrested for gambling for but a few US dollars.

Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Razali Abu Samah of the Kuala Lumpur Police secret society, gambling and vice division D7 said the people were watching the Ghana and Australia match at the time of the arrests.
In an earlier crack down two brothers, both architects, were arrested for operating an online betting scheme from a luxury house in Kuala Lumpur. With these arrests of the young men aged 33 and 35, police believe they have exposed a World Cup wagering syndicate which involved bets totalling RM5 million.
In the central Malaysian states of Selangor and Negri Sembilan six men were arrested in three separate incidents. The betting is done using mobile phones, laptops, and several bank accounts. The bookies stay on the move and are hard stop. It is not easy to determine how much of a dent this crack down on online gambling is making in the internet sports betting going on in Malaysia.
"The case is being investigated under Section 6(3) of Betting Act 1953. We are trying to ascertain the total amount of money placed in these bets," said acting Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner of Police Omar Mamah.
