TEXAS U GRAD IS THE FIRST SKILL GAMES WORLD CHAMP
FunTech's championship makes Kavitha an instant skill gaming millionaire
The management at skill gaming group Fun Technologies deserves a word of congratulations this week on a well organised and massively successful inaugural Worldwide Web Games championship (see previous Online-Casinos.com / InfoPowa reports) which led to a final field of 70 players competing for the top $1 million grand prize.
The competition was fierce and lasted over 12 hours with Kavitha Yalavarthi of Odessa in the Lone Star State emerging as the first-ever champion and winner of a million dollars.
The head-to-head event took place in Hollywood with the title of 'World's Best Casual Gamer 2006' up for grabs. The competition consisted of six rounds of strategic game play in three of the most popular casual games on the Web: Bejeweled 2, Solitaire and Zuma.
Yalavarthi, an aspiring law student and honours graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, won by the narrowest of margins, just edging out Amy Demerath of Green Bay, Wisconsin. She plans to use her second place winnings to purchase her first home with her new fiancé, who accompanied her to the competition.
Each participant in the W3Games qualified by playing online tournaments at FUN Technologies' casual games sites, WorldWinner and SkillJam, or at any of FUN's partner sites including GSN.com, MSN Games and Real Networks.
Lorne Abony, CEO, FUN Technologies, said, "For the first time, online casual gamers faced off in a live event that culminated with the largest prize ever awarded in a skill games championship."
