U.S. poker legend Doyle Brunson was strongly critical of the content and manner in which the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 was enacted this week, and promised to keep his DoylesRoom.com site open.
Brunson said, "As a lifelong poker player, I can't believe the underhanded way this new bill restricting online poker was passed through Congress. What does Internet poker have to do with the Safe Port Bill? We Texans don't like this kind of trickery."
The former World Poker Champion released an official statement following the signing of the Safe Ports Bill to which the online gambling financial control measure was attached, confirming to all existing and potential poker players its intention to continue to accept players from all over the world including the United States of America.
The statement comments that DoylesRoom.com has taken extensive legal advice and believes that it is far too early to fully understand the implications of this bill.
According to this legal advice, the new bill does not make internet poker expressly illegal nor does it take aim at players who enjoy online poker.
