MINNESOTAN POKER CHAMP TAKES HOME $43 600
Tough tournament as starting field of 400 fights it out
Just on 400 pokerheads assembled to compete in the Heartland Poker Tour Grand Casino Mille Lacs tournament in Onamia, Minnesota last week, with a generous prize pool up for grabs for the skilled and fortunate.
Shakopee, Minnesota player Mike Carlson finally bested the field to take home a $43 600 well earned paycheck.
On his way to victory, Carlson beat out Mike Simon, a Laport, Minn., player who had won the World Poker Tour Season 4 World Poker Challenge in Reno earlier this year.
Created to give American players a crack at the big time, the Heartland Poker Tour has organised events in Wisconsin, California, Minnesota and Michigan with upcoming events in Indiana and South Dakota. The final table was filmed and will be broadcast on regional cable television starting in 2007.
Over $2 million in prize money has been rewarded by the HPT in 2006. The last event on the 2006 tour will be in Flandreau, S.D., at the Royal River Casino November 22-26.
