CONFERENCE CORNER
Excellence in gaming law
Excellence in Gaming Law, an upcoming conference organised by Clarion ATE, presents a practical legal update for the gambling sector and takes place on Wednesday 29th November. It is sponsored by legal eagles Addleshaw Goddard and is being held at their 150 Aldersgate Street office in London.
Excellence in Gaming Law provides attendees with a short but detailed conference so that they can catch up on the legal issues affecting business strategy and performance. This one day event is the first time in-house counsel professionals working in gambling are being provided with a targeted conference at which they can learn about and update themselves on the major legal developments affecting the industry.
The opening panel gives attendees the inside track on understanding new regulations on advertising gambling products in the UK and beyond. Speakers addressing attendees in this session are: Helen Keefe, Code Policy Executive, Committee of Advertising Practice; Matt Jellicoe, European Head of Marketing, Sportingbet and Lynsay Taffe, Head of Policy, Advertising Standards Authority.
It also gives delegates a comprehensive overview on the current European legal climate so they can advise their senior management on law affecting their gaming business. Speakers include; Wes Himes, Managing Director, Policy Action; Evelyn Heffermehl, Associate, Ulys; Wulf Hambach, Partner, Hambach & Hambach and Quirino Mancini, Partner, Sinisi Ceschini Mancini.
The last session of the day takes a look at developing a successful strategy in handling M&A activity and IPOs. This is a timely session with PartyGaming having just acquired Gamebookers, murmurs of an acquisition of 888.com, Ladbrokes continually being linked with a takeover bid by various casino firms and London Clubs International being acquired by Harrahs Entertainment. Speakers on these hot topics include: Georgia Gordon, Lawyer, Yoomedia and Nigel Bland, Director, Corporate Finance, Deloitte.
