GAMBLING.COM TO GO MULTILINGUAL
European languages the first step in expansion plans
Veteran portal and information site Gambling.com will further broaden its scope by going multilingual, initially by offering German, Spanish and French splash pages, the company has announced. The move to offer greater accessibility is part of a strategy to expand internationally, which will ultimately give advertisers the option of submitting their listings in a host of local languages
Justin Drummond, CEO of Gambling.com's parent company MediaCorp claims that independent research carried out for the UK Government shows that there are 2.2 million regular online gamblers in continental Europe, and the market is growing rapidly. "Our vision for Gambling.com is to encompass all an online visitor's gambling requirements in the most informative and efficient way possible. With these extra languages, we can provide this service to a whole new set of people interested in gambling", he said. "There's huge potential."
The gambling market in Europe has been growing strongly. In Germany, in particular, it has boomed in the past three years. It was boosted by the huge interest in the recent World Cup and is estimated by the state betting agencies to be worth over Euro 30 billion a year.
In France, there may be as many as 2 million people who gamble online, according to a recent report quoting a spokesman for Groupe Partouche SA, operator of the Cannes Palm Beach casino.
The EU Commission is pushing member states to scrap any measures that protect domestic gaming monopolies when those nations open their markets in the near future, enabling already keen gamblers, like the now tightly regulated Spanish, to have more choice, which will increase demand for search portals.
Media Corp has targeted accelerated international expansion, outside the US, as a key goal for Gambling.com, and has recently boosted staff numbers to this end.
