$5 000 RAISED BY POKER ACE FOR SKI TEAM

Phil Gordon - coaching for charity

Doing his bit for charity, poker ace Phil Gordon raised $5 000 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week by partnering with Cisco Systems to raise funds for the U.S. Disabled Ski Team

Cisco invited its top 50 cable clients to join them for a charity poker event, and the clients donated $100 to the ski team in order to attend. Gordon, who used to work for Cisco some time ago, agreed to give the group poker tips before the start of the tournament at no charge.

Gordon joked with the group that he wasn't cut out for corporate life, revealing that he worked for Cisco for about six months after it bought another company he was working for at the time, and then took a buy-out which he used to start his poker career.

The action took place at the luxurious Venetian high roller suite, where Cisco's guests were given a copy of Gordon's book on poker.

Cisco already sponsors three athletes on the U.S. Disabled Ski Team and paid a further $10 000 to host the charity event.
