EAST VS WEST ONLINE POKER CONFRONTATION
PartyPoker sets the scene for a monumental poker competition
Although online qualifying games for the next Party Poker European Challenge have already started, the veteran online poker site has introduced a new competitive element for those who achieve a place.
The first 50 online qualifiers from Eastern Europe and a similar number from Western Europe will face off against each other in a bonus tournament with a Euro 100 000 prize pool in addition to earning a $6 500 package to the Challenge.
"The Euro 100 000 prize pool for the East versus West Cup is a great bonus for qualifiers for the European Challenge," said a PartyPoker.com spokesman this week.
During the contest between East and West, the 10 survivors who claim a seat at the final table will get a share of Euro 50 000. The remaining Euro 50 000 from the prize pool will be split among the members of the winning team.
Captaining the Eastern team and revelling in their traditional professional rivalry will be poker pro Tony G, while the West will be led by David "Devilfish" Ulliott.
"This event is sure to show whether it is a phony war between them, or whether this event will renew their hostilities," said a PartyPoker.com spokesman. "Tony G. and the Devilfish have famously clashed many times."
The East versus West Cup will take place at the Austrian Spring Poker Festival planned for March this year, and the action will be filmed for worldwide television distribution.
The qualifiers will then play in the European Challenge also planned to take place at the festival at the Concord Card Casino between March 10-17.
There is an estimated $1.1 million prize pool for the event. Siegfried Stockinger, last year's winner, has already confirmed he will be participating again.
