SURPRISE CHAMPION

Note the name Anna Wroblewski - you may be hearing it more often in poker circles

Relative unknown, Anna Wroblewski, was $337 395 richer this week after winning event 9 of the Fifth Annual Five Star World Poker Classic at the Bellagio in Vegas - a $3 000 No Limit Hold 'Em competition.

In beating a field of 324 players that included highly experienced and tough opponents, Wroblewski became the first female champion, knocking out world class players and multiple competition champions like Erick Lindgren and Peter Feldman in the contest.

The heads up between Wroblewski and final opponent Jonathan Dull was a lively affair which the feisty woman player took, earning the substantial winner's paycheck, the title and a Bellagio bracelet and entry to the WPT championship valued at $25 000. Dull's second placing earned him Dull $192 640.

Remarkably, the event was Wroblewski's first big tournament win.
