BILLIONAIRE BETTING ON BETCLICK?
Former Endemol head may have big plans for London bookie
The European bookmaker Betclick could be in for some serious investment and expansion, judging by business media reports out of France this week which suggest that Mangas Capital is making good progress in acquisition talks with the bookie's owners.
Mangas is a well-heeled investment fund run by the highly respected former chief of Endemol, Stephane Courbit who sold the TV production company to Spain's Telefonica last (2006) year, accruing around Euro 450 million in the deal. According to the French media, Mangas has over a billion Euros available for deployment by the business-savvy Courbit, auguring well for a dramatic expansion of Betclick should agreement on the acquisition be reached.
Betclick was launched in 2005 by Nicolas Béraud and is French-facing, although licensed in Malta and the UK. The company is well positioned on the Continent, with promotional agreements with footballers Marcel Deasilly in France, Rui Costa in Portugal and Kiko for Spain.
