BETSSON TARGETS PERU
Swedish company pioneers online gambling in South American nation
The Swedish gambling company Betsson, which is associated with online gambling software developer Net Entertainment has officially entered the more liberalised Peruvian online gambling market, reports the ex-pat news medium Living in Peru.
With over 900 000 clients and growing, the European giant has a worldwide expansion strategy and has chosen Peru as its newest market, offering a wide range of first-class online gambling products and games in a safe and user-friendly gaming environment.
With complete online gambling games such as online poker, online casino, scratch cards and sports betting, Betsson is the only company of its kind in the South American country, Living In Peru claims.
According to Global Betting and Gaming Consultants (GBGC), online gambling sales reach over $15 billion annually.
"We examined several markets in South America and decided on Peru. The dizzying growth of the number of homes with internet access and the relatively high number of internet users in combination with the developed gaming culture and our partners capacity were all decisive factors", said Thomas Kalita, general manager of Betsson.
"We've compared Peru's economic and infrastructural growth over the past years with other countries in the region, this has also influenced our decision", said Kalita.
"Peru deserves a fairer and more varied game. If one thinks that 'La U' will win the 'Clasico' over the weekend, then a 5 sol bet can be placed on Betsson."
Manuel San Roman, director of the Peruvian General Office of Casino Games and Slot Machines, said that by regulating a formerly illicit [online] gambling industry, the government can repeat its success in controlling the land gambling industry.
