BEWARE NETELLER PHISHING SCAM
Email claiming intention to IP track withdrawals is false
Neteller clients receiving an email from "communications@neteller" advising that the e-processor intended re-introducing IP tracking from 31 March should beware of this scam from criminal phishers, which the Isle of Man company has confirmed is not genuine.
The email advises account holders that IP tracking functionality on their accounts "will be re-instated. This is a security measure to ensure the location of your login matches the country of residence registered with your NETELLER account." It goes on to urge account holders contemplating an overseas trip away from their home country registered with Neteller click on a link, ostensibly to obtain permission to operate their accounts whilst away from home.
If this is not done, any foreign transactions will be voided, the sham email claims.
The email is cleverly assembled so as to faithfully resemble Neteller's new corporate image, and the link leads to a field where account holders are asked to type in their account numbers, names and details. This could open up their accounts to a criminal raid resulting in loss of funds.
Neteller Support has advised account holders not to respond to the email, but to forward it to phishing@neteller.com for further investigation.
