POKER - POOL CONVERGENCE

Virtual pool players offered WSOP prize

In an interesting convergence of online interests, the online pool website PoolStars.com is giving poker players a chance to win a sponsored seat in the World Series of Poker main event.

The website, which offers a virtual version of the popular billiards recreational game, is sponsoring a WSOP main event package worth $12 500 to the overall winner of a series of online freeroll tournaments.

Players can qualify for the final freeroll - the winner of which earns the WSOP seat - by participating in daily WSOP Satellite freerolls starting May 1 and running through May 31.

The game of choice for these tournaments is 9-ball, and the tournaments are scheduled to start daily at 22:00 GMT (6 p.m. EST). The top eight finishers from each daily tournament - 256 players in all - will take to the virtual billiards felt June 7 in the final freeroll to determine the WSOP seat winner.

Ambitious pool players can polish their potting skills playing for free on the Pool Stars site before the website launches real money operations around May this year.
