BETFAIR CTO MOVES ON

Online betting group seeking replacement

Rorie Devine, the high profile Chief Technology Officer for the Betfair online gambling group is moving on, according to reports this week in British IT journals. Devine is apparently considering several opportunities and leaves the company by "mutual consent" in an amicable parting of ways after just under five years service.

Widely respected among his peers as an IT executive with a sound understanding of business, Devine was one of the UK's top CIOs last year and has a degree in computer systems and electronics from Kings College. He began his IT career with LogicaCMG, working with clients such as the Bank of England before moving to consult on trading-floor systems in investment banking, working with more than 20 major financial institutions before joining Betfair in 2004.

In a statement to the media, Betfair's CEO David Yu said Devine had transformed the company's technology team during his time as CTO.

"Rorie transformed our technology team from that of a growing start-up to one which powers one of the most successful internet businesses," Yu said. "He introduced processes and rigour that resulted in our site becoming more stable, performing better, and having more headroom than ever. He also led the department through exceptional growth with headcount tripling and the inclusion of many new products across our portfolio. He leaves with my sincere thanks for all his contributions."

Betfair said it has engaged a head hunting agency to find a replacement for the affable Devine.

According to the industry publication CIO, Devine's 300 strong IT team makes up 25 percent of the Betfair workforce in west London.
