Almost 300 employees affected by staffing cutbacks
Further evidence of the impact of the North American economic slowdown on land gambling operations was afforded this week in articles in the Ontario, Canadian media reporting that almost 300 employees have already been affected by budget-motivated staff cutbacks.
279 casino workers of all types took retrenchment packages offered by two of the province's land casinos, Niagara Falls View and Casino Niagara, whilst a further 11 accepted an offer to work part-time only, but with benefits for the next year. The staff reductions bring employee levels at the two venues to approximately 3 000.
Company spokesmen regretted the cutbacks, but said these were necessary due to current market conditions.
