The professionals continue to dominate events at the World Series of Poker, with the latest win going to Belgium's David Kitai, who won Event 38 - the fiercely contested $2 000 buy-in Pot-Limit Hold'em competition.
605 players - slightly more than last year - signed up for the event, including Italy's Internet whizkid 23 year old Dario Minieri, David Singer, Nenad Medic, John Phan, Vanessa Rousso, Kathy Liebert, Clonie Gowen, John Hennigan, Lee Watkinson, Tom Schneider, Marcel Luske, Mark Seif, Jeff Lisandro and Scott Clements, with many of them eliminated in the early stages.
By the time the final table was reached Kitai was halfway down the chip counts, with German player Jan Von Halle holding the lead over a table that featured Chris Bell, Lee Watkinson, Ben Roberts and other talented but less well known players.
The tenacious Belgian steadily worked his way up the list, ending up in a lengthy, 5 hour heads-up challenge with US player Chris Bell, from which Kitai emerged victorious. The win gave Kitai a WSOP bracelet and the first prize of $244 546, with Bell collecting a paycheck for $155 806 for his time and trouble.
Kitai has achieved two previous WSOP cashes, one of them a Main Event finish last year.
