Illegal gambling unit confiscates gambling equipment and cash
Toronto police swooped on four business premises they claimed were being used for illegal gambling last week, arresting 47 people and seizing gambling equipment and Cdn$ 12 000 in cash.
The raids were carried out simultaneously, a police spokesman revealed. Three of the four businesses raided were in Toronto and one was in Pickering, police said.
Nine people have subsequently been charged with keeping a common gaming house while 36 accused and two young offenders face charges of being found in a common gaming house.
