SAD LOSS OF POPULAR GAMBLING WRITER

Sudden death at age 39 for Casino Player editor

The Casino Connection blog reports the death at the tragically young age of 39 years of Adam Fine, one of the most player-popular and respected writers on gambling in the business and a well liked bon vivant. It is understood that the cause of death was a stroke.

Fine's writing in Casino Player magazine was both erudite and humorous, and he enjoyed a large and mainly player oriented following.

Friend and fellow manager Frank Legato paid tribute to him this week, recalling that Fine was the editor-in-chief and main force behind Casino Player magazine, arguably the most well-known and popular publication of the genre for players in the United States. Launched by Adam's older brother Glenn and Roger Gros in 1988, the magazine soon achieved success with its topical and informed content thanks in part to Fine's enthusiasm and writing skills.

Two years prior to that, whilst only 17, Adam had joined his brother and remained with the company following the magazine's launch. A few years later he took over as editor-in-chief from Gros, who was needed in other operations of the growing enterprise, and has been the driving force of Casino Player and Strictly Slots ever since.

Sadly, his untimely death precluded him from celebrating the 20th anniversary of the company to which he contributed so much, which takes place next (October) month.

Legato described Fine as a brilliant man. "Whether writing about the trends of gaming, a great new hotel, or a fine restaurant, his prose had a way of drawing the reader into his world and making him experience that particular casino resort, restaurant or amenity right along with the writer," he wrote.

"Adam's secret was that he wrote as he felt. His writing revealed his own lust for life, his love of fine dining, his love of great entertainment. Adam savored each of the finer things of life, and invited his readers to do the same. Thousands responded with undying loyalty to Casino Player magazine," Legato added.
