RUTHENBERG IS BARCELONA OPEN KING
Young German pro takes the EPT title and Euro 1 361 000 main prize
Starting out with 619 other hopefuls in the Euro 8 000 entry PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona Open, German player Sebastian Ruthenburg won the big one this week, taking home the prestige and the Euro 1 361 000 main prize after a spirited heads up with Irish player Fintan Gavin (40). For Ruthenburg it was a nice addition to his gold WSOP bracelet won in Las Vegas earlier this year.
The final eight players represented both European and North American nations and play was initially slow and somewhat cautious, taking almost 3 and half hours of play before the first elimination.
In the heads up, Ruthenburg faced Irish player Fintan Gavin with an almost five-to-one advantage in chips, and it was all over by the third hand; Gavin collected a generous paycheck of Euro 792 000 - a good return on investment for the player, who had qualified for the EPT in an online satellite tournament.
