AGA UNDECIDED ON LEGALISATION OF U.S. ONLINE GAMBLING (Update)

But some members may push for it anyway

The spirits of supporters of legalised and regulated online gambling in the United States were lifted at G2E last year when the chief of the American Gaming Association, Frank Fahrenkopf, revealed that his members - all high powered American land gambling companies - would be discussing the issue in detail at a December board meeting. Unfortunately, it appears that there has been little change in attitudes, and that some members are still opposed to online gambling.

In an IGN interview this week Fahrenkopf said that the Association had been unable to arrive at a unified view and approach to online gambling, dashing perhaps optimistic hopes that the severe financial pressures imposed on the land gambling industry by the global economic recession would have helped bring about a change in thinking.

However, Fahrenkopf noted that some members, notably Harrah's Entertainment Inc., had expressed an intention to go it alone in pressing for Internet gambling regulation during the 111th Congress.
