Online Gambling Ad Employs Giant Lemur

The Advertising Standards Authority is the independent body set up by the advertising industry to police the rules laid down in the advertising codes. The strength of this self-regulated system is embedded in the independence of the ASA and the support and commitment of the advertising industry.

Ladbrokes, the extra large online casino company has again launched another advertisement that may get the Advertising Standards Authority wheels spinning. Ladbrokes ads are highly entertaining ads that grab a piece of the consumer attention pie. There was probably some nervousness before the ads were launched, mainly because the last couple of Ladbrokes ads were pulled by the UK based watch dog organization. It was ruled that the previous ads promoted the idea that online gambling promoted risk taking and reckless behaviour. These last two adverts depicted a guy diving into water with sharks after putting bacon and sausage all over himself and the other a guy skydiving with smaller and smaller parachutes to get bigger thrills. Just a tad tongue and cheek you may say.

Now Ladbrokes has a new approach, a giant Sifaka Lemur that can count to 100 and play hide and seek, then he's off to find the seeker, romping through deserted city streets. This seems much less controversial as it takes a more subtle side to risk taking by suggesting you don't have to play hide and seek with an massive lemur in order to get your thrills. Ladbrokes payed big money to the M&C Saatchi advertising company with director Scott Lyon so it is a sure bet they will get your attention. Will this advert be tame enough for the Advertising Standards Authority to allow it to make its way to the airways for at least a little run? Maybe it would be a good idea to hide our eyes and count to one hundred.
