The Queen's Plate is the first jewel in Canada's Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing and the longest continuously run stakes race in North America. The other gems in the Crown are the Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie followed by the Breeders' Stakes at Woodbine. The 150th running of the Queen's Plate will be this Sunday June 21, 2009 4:30 est at Woodbine Race Track in Toronto Canada. It is for three year olds foaled in the northern nation.

Only seven horses have won the Canadian Triple Crown in it's long history. All of the races in both series are open to geldings, which differs from the situation in Europe, where many important flat races, notably the British and French classics, bar geldings.

Online gambling sportsbooks are full of advise as to which of the horses looks to be the most promising to win. Sometimes punters are wagering on the jockey and not nesessarily the horse. A recent report was about Russell Baze who has the reputation as being the jockey with the most winning rides.

Baze, who is now 50 has 10,554 victories to his credit, and has accumulated $162 million US in purse winnings since he began his jockeying career in the mid 1970s. The Vancouver British Columbia native has been inducted into the U.S. Horse Racing Hall of Fame. He has been recruited by trainer Lorne Richards to ride K.K. Sangara's, Shut It Down.

Shut It Down, has earned $193,985 US in his eight-race, two-win career. Baze was aboard Dave the Comet for an eighth place finish in the 1999 Queen's Plate.
