EGRmagazine revealed recently that Bodog is barking up yet another tree as it launches into the coffee business. Not to mention a new online poker network, and two new media ventures. It was also said that the iconic online gambling outfit is also looking for a franchise partner in the Latin American region. The usually illusive billionaire founder of the Bodog brand Calvin Ayre said the new poker network, "will distinguish itself in the online poker market by Bodog's distinctive 'outsider' brand." adding, "A lot of the brands are the same as each other and there's not much differentiation. The Bodog model was rolled out in 2006 because it differentiated itself on a brand values basis, and that's going to be a big part of the strategy in Europe,"
Based in Kahnawake, Canada, with a development team in London U.K. the new poker network will gather resources from existing Bodog poker rooms but will also see other operators as part of the action. Mr. Ayre said in the indepth interview with EGRmagazine, "The centre of gravity in the Bodog world is shifting to London, which is the centre of the gaming universe right now, and we're taking advantage of it," "The UK has completely opened up to the global network and London has the infrastructure to support it".
New media venture Bodog Life, is a retail targeted site featuring lifestyle content. The other new media venture is a tabloid style online egaming news bulletin. "Bodog Life is aimed at growing the Bodog brand globally," "The tablog is just for my own enjoyment." Ayre pointed out. The coffee division of Bodog will use proven models with Bodog-branded kiosks and shop fronts and a Bodog-branded coffee. Ayre has already purchased the rights to the Illy coffee brand in one as yet undisclosed South American country.
On the subject of franchising, Ayre concluded, "From a Bodog brand perspective the next thing I would like to find is a good Latin America operator. I think the Bodog brand will really work there. South Africa, New Zealand and Australia are good markets and one of the big franchises will look at those at some point, but they aren't big markets. The place where we are really looking to sell a franchise is South America."
