SKY'S iTV POKER TO LAUNCH IN 2007
British TV giant awaits introduction of the new UK Gambling Act
The TV gambling subsidiary of Britain's major BSkyB TV group, Skybet has revealed
that it will launch the UK's first interactive TV poker venture once the UK
Gambling Act comes into force in 2007.
The Gambling Act will permit the launch of true casino games such as poker,
in addition to the fixed odds games already available on SkyBet, the firm
said in a statement.
Skybet has generated considerable profits from fixed-odds game such as TV roulette
on its range of interactive TV channels. A spokesman said gross margin for SkyBet
had increased from 8 percent to 10 percent, largely on the back of the success
of its roulette and TV slots games.
Total SkyBet revenue for the year was GBP 261 million, a 37 percent increase
on the comparable period last year.
SkyBet operates its gaming operations from Alderney, and is now one of the largest
UK bookmakers without a high street presence.
In a recent senior management re-shuffle ex-managing director Nick Rust, who
is also chairman of the newly formed Remote Gaming Association became Director
of Gaming at BSkyB. The former commercial director, Richard Flint is now md
of Skybet.
