Merge Online Poker Halts Play in New Jersey and Delaware

The situation in the USA regarding online poker is making news again as some online poker players who want to log on in New Jersey and Delaware on the Merge Gaming skin which includes Carbon Poker, BetUSA, and Sportsbook have discovered that their accounts had been suspended for “security reasons”.

Some players had contacted the customer support venues and it has become clear that the accounts were being suspended “as per restrictions set in your state” with no prior warning and with no procedures in place to facilitate the withdrawal of players funds.

New players have not been able to log on to the Merge network for at least a year although players who were already on the network have been able to play online in Nevada where internet poker has been legislated as legal. The New Jersey and Delaware legislation doesn’t allow for play on unauthorized poker networks such as the Merge Network. The Department of Justice crackdown in April of 2011 in the states of New York, Washington, Maryland, Missouri, DC, Louisiana, Kentucky and Utah put a closed sign on the Merge domains.

The network has said it will be issuing a formal statement regarding player’s funds in their accounts as reported by contributors to the poker forum website 2+2. The statement is sure to include an apology for any inconvenience to loyal players. Online poker players have been complaining that the liquidity on their “home” online poker sites, in jurisdictions such as Delaware and Nevada may drive them to other networks such as Bovada, the Winning Poker Network or the Equity Poker Network.

Bovada Poker and other poker networks have not said anything yet about the complications regarding New Jersey and Delaware legislation. Bovada operates in many states where others have pulled away from by simply stating in their terms and conditions that, ‘You may only use the Services if you reside in a jurisdiction that permits you to place wagers on the outcome of sporting events, to download and to play casino, poker and other games, and to participate in poker tournaments.’
